Just because something is marked "sale" does not mean that it is a good deal.  Knowing your prices for items you use is a good way to save.  Keep in mind "seasonal" items that are usually at their lowest price.  Keep a record of low sales prices so you can begin to track the prices.  The list of grocery store sale trends below will help.

Our grocery stores now stock most items all year .......but remember if they aren't in season they are being shipped from somewhere else and that means more cost.  Items shipped from far away places mean loss of taste because they are being harvested "under-ripe" to give more time to get to the store.  Example:  if you buy grapes in the winter they are being shipped from the other side of the equator.  To get to "our" stores they have to be harvested long before the peak flavor in order to arrive in our store before going bad.  

In season fruits...........buying fruits that are out of season can cost you 3 to 5 times more than if purchased "in season".  Buy fruits in season and freeze, dehydrate or can them for off season use.

Manufacturers purchase shelf space for new products coming into the grocery stores so watch for items on sale to create the self space for new items.  example................

End of Summer - soups are usually on sale-----the shelves need to be ready for the new harvest soups.
