How to store Lettuce and Produce ......lasts 3 weeks!!!

Well Hello again!!!!  It has been a long road to recovery but am feeling great (it's about time!) lol

I figured this little blog has been sitting here like money in the bank so to speak!  Amidst a global pandemic I guess I better dust off my blogging skills and get going.

We have been doing a great job of isolating and our preparedness plans have worked out well short of "munchies".  lol   I ran across a couple of tips that are very timely.  The first one is a tip on how to keep your lettuce/produce longer.

Sharing my experiment with you.... I found an article about vacuum sealing lettuce in mason jars and storing in the refrigerator. Well, it works!! my first batch lasted 2 weeks (only because we used it all)! I chopped it and packed it in quart jars, vacuumed seal with the food saver and refrigerated. When I wanted to use it I took out the amount needed, vacuumed sealed the jar back up, washed the lettuce and voila yummy fresh tasting crunchy salad! I'm now experimenting with chopped celery. Been in for 2 weeks and is as fresh and crispy as if I had just purchased it.

I have a FoodSaver Titanium but you can use any FoodSaver type machine.  (I upgraded to a commercial type after I wore out two of the others!)  Using a FoodSaver has been one of the best investments as we have literally NO spoilage or freezer burn no matter how long it gets lost in the freezer!  No Joke........we had a small Prime Rib roast that got shoved to the back of the freezer and forgotten.  When I found it ..........it was over 4 years old!!!!! yikes!!!!   With some fear.........  we took that puppy out and cooked it up...........yum yum yummo.............NO freezer burn......tender and juicy.  Needless to say I now have a Inventory system for my freezer and specific areas for different types of food......but....you get my point.

1.  Pack lettuce or produce into quart jars with sealing lid on top
2.  Place white top over the lid.
3.  Attach the connection to the top of the white adapter top and the other side to the FoodSaver machine.
4.  Press "vacuum seal"
5.  Remove connection tube from white top and voila!

Enjoy!  deb
