Hello Everyone!
Well...........I've hat it!.............tired of paying 10prices for a mix ...I'm going to make this stuff myself...... ???? I think....... So.... I went into my Laboratory (kitchen) today with a packet of this,........... hereafter known as "said" packet..........and a few different recipes touted as a "exact copy" of said packet. I scanned the ingredients on said packet and compared it to the recipes with the best reviews on the various website as being closest to said formula. After 4hrs of hilariously great fun.........
What I came up with was a mix that none of my "testers" could tell the difference from. (I do think mine has a slight hint more of dill that we like).
So...............taking everything from my spice shelf....we have a recipe that will equal 36 packets of said Ranch Mix. (That would cost approximately 78.84!)
Buttermilk Ranch Dressing (makes 1 Qt)
1 1/2 Tbsp mix
2 C Buttermilk (Homemade Buttermilk-add 2 tsp vinegar to 2 C Milk - let set for 5min..it will curdle a bit)
1 C Best Foods Mayo
1 C Sour Cream (learned this from a Restaurant in California with the best Ranch I've ever tasted.)
optional: 1/2-1 tsp Xanthum Gum as thickening agent. It will thicken in fridge. If you don't want to use the Xanthum Gum......just use less Buttermilk to achieve desired consistency.
Basic Mix (makes equal to approx 36 packets)
6 Tbsp dried/dehydrated green onions
4 T celery flakes
3 T salt
2 T Kosher salt (does make a difference)
1 Tbsp Accent or MSG ( I know.........slap me......I only use it for certain things)
2 Tbsp Garlic powder
1 tsp paprika
3 Tbsp onion powder
4 Tbsp onion flakes
6 Tbsp parsley flakes
6 Tbsp dill
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 C Buttermilk Powder (it is at Walmart "Cultured Buttermilk Blend" comes in 12oz size carton.
Thickening Agent: Xanthum Gum powder (health food store) opt:
Hope you enjoy..........deb
